Jinnah College of Nursing started at Medicare School of Nursing in 1997 as the first educational unit of S.M. Sohail Trust at Medicare Karachi Hospital. Initially, a three-year nursing program was established for female students only. In June 2003 the Medical School of Nursing was transferred to Jinnah Medical College Hospital in Korangi, Karachi. Here on campus, the female nurses’ program was replaced by a male nursing program, and the first batch of male students was introduced in 2004 now and the three-year diploma program was replaced by a female in 2012. licensed examination of the Sindh Nurses Examination Board (SNEB), which enables graduates to work as a registered Nursing Nurse in Pakistan. To further education in various fields of nursing, Jinnah College of Nursing center is known for specialized postal programs namely Diploma in Cardiac Nursing & Midwifery. All programs are approved by the Pakistan Nursing Council and are affiliated with Ziauddin University. In January 2012 Jinnah College of Nursing was transferred to Jinnah Medical College Hospital Korangi, Karachi. Here on this campus is the only morning program transferred from JMDC according to the decision of the Pakistani Nursing Council.

The Post RN-BScN program is a two-year program designed to allow registered nurses to gain the in-depth knowledge and skills needed to perform nursing care as skilled and experienced nurses in clinics. Post-RN-BSN is a 2-year degree, having 4 semesters in total and 64 credit hours (4 semesters = 64 credit hours)

The eligibility criteria for Jinnah School of Nursing and Midwifery requires students to fulfill the conditions as stated: they must have cleared their SSC examinations, they need to have a current and valid registration card (CNIC) or license of their country of residence, must have achieved at least Second Division of their Provincial Nursing Board Examination, evidence of one year of clinical experience as an RN, completed RM diploma, and a No Objection Certificate from the departments where RN/RM has been completed.

The fee structure for the program of Post Registered Nurse Bachelors of Science in Nursing (Post-RN BScN) can be broken down to include one-time fees of Rs.2000 for the application, an admission fee of Rs. 60,000, a physical examination fee of Rs.2000, and lab charges are Rs. 3000. BSN Generic (4years)

The program is a four-year degree one year of accredited training that brings the full duration of the degree to 5 years; aims to equip students with the skills to become a paid nurse. After these 5 years’ students will be able to give their PNC license exams and become a registered nurses. BSN Generic is a 4-year degree, there are a total of 8 semesters and 135 credit hours followed by one year of internship (8 semesters = 135 credit hours followed by a one-year internship)

To enroll in the Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BScN) a student needs to clear his HSSC examinations with at least 50% from the pre-medical group which means physics, chemistry, and biology must be included as compulsory subjects. In case a student has the equivalent qualifications from a foreign education system such as A-Levels will need an equivalency certificate from IBCC (Inter Board Chairman of Committee) which must state that the marks are equal to at least 50% from the pre-medical group.

Undergraduate Programs:

The admission process for undergraduate programs is divided into three stages. The first stage includes the submission of the application to the Jinnah School of Nursing and then the students are invited to give an admission test. The admission test for BScN is based on English language, Mathematics Reasoning, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics meanwhile the test for Post RN BScN will include sections from English language and Nursing knowledge, both these tests are MCQs based.

In the second stage, candidates will be shortlisted based on the admission test and will then be required to submit the required documents at Jinnah School of Nursing and then be required to attend a panel interview.

Stage three will be when the final selection of candidates takes place

Graduate Programs:

The admission process for the graduate program can be broken down into three stages.

The first stage includes the submission of the application at Jinnah School of Nursing and the students then must give the admission test. The admission test will include a section for English language, quantitative reasoning, and subject-specific exam.

The second stage is when candidates are shortlisted based on their admission tests; the students shortlisted must provide relevant academic documents including work experience certificates and references.

The third stage involves the university making a final selection of candidates.

Scholarship

For students who are selected and are unable to pay for the cost of education, the University operates a needs-sensitive Financial Assistance Program. Through this program, the University extends financial support, to the extent possible, to students who secure admission to University programs but are not able to pay tuition and other fees. The continuation of financial assistance is conditional upon a yearly assessment of the financial needs of the student. Eligible, meritorious-based scholarships are available for female and male candidates. Women are encouraged to apply. Continuity of scholarship depends on the academic performance of students and is subject to revision on an annual basis

Refund/Cancellation Policy

Students can withdraw from any semester/program but they have to pay the fee or refund them

Scholarship or any other outstanding dues so far. Admission and semester fees will not be refunded. However, policies vary depending on the program you are enrolled in.

Withdrawal / Dismissal:

Students are recommended to adhere to ethical and professional benchmarks as described by JCN Karachi, Pakistan Nursing Council Code of Execution (Appendix II, in the student handbook), and Foreign Council Nursing Code for Nurses (Appendix III, in Applicants’ Hand Book). Is Documented violations of this type of code may result in layoffs from JCN Karachi.

In case of leaving the program behind voluntarily, the fee will not be deposited in case of any hardship.

Seat Allocation:

These programs are specifically issued on a merit basis. Up to 50 male and female applicants can be enrolled in the Generic BSc Nursing and 75 students can be enrolled in the Post RN BSc Nursing program.
